I took it in Cally, and am thinking of taking it up again. For cardio - there's nothing better than combos!

Re: Does anyone here take JKD in the PacNW?
Mon, August 16, 2004 - 3:33 PMSure, the way is your own way. But a gym with other seekers is great to practice with heavy bags, mitts, shields, footwork, etc. -

Re: Does anyone here take JKD in the PacNW?
Tue, August 17, 2004 - 7:46 AMwhich is helpful yes but be wary of any school saying they teach jeet kune do... if they say we teach the philosophy of jkd then they are really on the money and are worth looking into -

Re: Does anyone here take JKD in the PacNW?
Tue, August 17, 2004 - 9:43 AMIt's worse than that. The core people that worked with BL have splintered into many small groups now. This mostly had to do with the over-marketing of merchandise at JKD gatherings, which really turned off core people. Here in Seattle, Taky Kimura's son has a school, but it is more Jun Fan Gung Fu, BL's early teachings. I'm looking more for a martial arts gym than anything else. I don't want to hurt anyone, I just want to work out and perfect my mind and body as much as possible. -

Re: Does anyone here take JKD in the PacNW?
Tue, August 17, 2004 - 5:07 PMIf anything, I'm more interested in grappling, subdual. It's better to subdue in a fight, especially if there are witnesses. That way you don't get sued for punching someone's face to a bloody pulp. -

Yeah right on..
Capoeira is the shit, well for me at least, obviously it goes without sayin' that some people have different needs and different paths to take. I've never really been too attracted to JKD, however Lee's philosophies do inspire me quite often.
Hope you find what life strategy/philosophy/techniques your lookin' for man.

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: Does anyone here take JKD in the PacNW?
Wed, August 18, 2004 - 12:06 PMCapoera has a lot of close quarter techniques which are rather ugly (think eye gauges, elbows, knees, etc). It does lack grappling, but does have a number of techniques to avoid being grappled. A good teacher will show this stuff to their students.
