Ong-Bak

I'm hearing some things about this new guy Tony Jaa. Apparently this movie is mediocre at best, but this guy's supposed to have serious skills. The trailers and teasers I've seen thus far have certainly been promising. Has anyone seen it? Are the comparisons to Bruce Lee a) somewhat based in reality, b) overblown, or c) way overblown?

I have not seen it yet, but im sure that its not a high budget movie wich would make it appear mediocre. Go watch it and judge for yourself, I never listen to what others say, alot of times they say "oh that movie sucked" and when I go and watch it, it is good for me.

This movie is great. I can see why they are calling him "the next Bruce Lee". He has put in a lot of work, and it shows.

Great movie. The scene with the SUV was sick!

Seen it. But it's been a few months.
As memory serves the movie is okay at best.
But Jaa is incredible...a few of his moves left me slack-jawed. He's extremely athletic. He throws lotsa knees and elbows (Muy Tai, kickboxing), the highlight being a spectacular double knee drop onto the chest of the rat fink who stole the whatchamajigit from the village.
Comparisons to Bruce? Come on, Bruce will always be the king, no one had/has his speed, skill, intelligence, drive, and God given ability to smile while eviserating an opponent (not just on screen either). But Tony Jaa is definitely as exciting as Jet Li, and I'm looking forward to seeing more of his films...that is until Hollywood discovers his talents and co-stars him with Chris Tucker.

Jaa is awesome- does all his own incredible stunts. That is really what the movie is about, in my opinion, and is great in that sense. Any athlete or martial artist can appreciate it. Really impressive. And look out for the new movie that includes a fight scene with a capoeirista.
